Mental Health Supports

Seine River School Division is committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of all students through a comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach. Supports are embedded within a whole-school wellness framework and include:

 

Learning Support Teachers

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify and support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Provide individualized strategies that promote emotional regulation and academic success.
  • Support inclusive education practices aligned with the Manitoba Framework for Learning.
 

Occupational Therapy

  • Available to support students with sensory regulation, motor skills, and functional participation in school activities.
  • OT services are integrated into school routines to promote self-regulation and reduce barriers to learning.
 

School Psychologists

  • Conduct assessments to identify learning and mental health needs.
  • Support individualized education planning and provide consultation to school teams.
  • Promote trauma-informed practices and culturally sensitive approaches to student support
 

School Social Workers

  • Provide direct support to students and families navigating mental health, trauma, and social-emotional challenges.
  • Facilitate access to community-based services and crisis supports.
  • Lead implementation of programs such as Sources of Strength, DBT, and Safe Talk.
  • Engage in culturally responsive practices, including respect for Indigenous ways of knowing and Truth and Reconciliation.
 

Culturally Responsive and Trauma-Informed Approach

  • Staff receive ongoing professional development in Respect for Human Diversity, Treaty Education, and Mamatawisiwin.
  • Mental health supports are designed to reflect the diverse identities and lived experiences of students.
  • Community partnerships enhance access to culturally relevant services, including Indigenous and newcomer supports.
 

Evidence-Based Planning

  • Mental health initiatives are informed by student surveys, incident reporting, and youth voice.
  • Supports are embedded in school-wide plans and reviewed regularly for continuous improvement.
