What is Professional
Development?
Educators have a professional responsibility not only to
maintain a certain level of knowledge in teaching but also to look for new and
exciting innovations in getting their students engaged in their own learning and
development. Educators in every grade attend workshops, conferences and
professional learning groups, or simply dialogue with each other, observe each
other teaching and plan projects together. All of these are part of a continuous
and effective professional development program. It is an essential part of the
teacher’s work and must be taken seriously. Professional development needs to be
supported and encouraged at the individual level, school level and at the
divisional level.
